Uttarakhand Assembly Passes Bill Proposing 100% Hike in Salaries Of MLA's

The Uttarakhand Assembly on Monday passed a bill proposing 100% hike in salaries of MLAs. Reports claimed that after this bill, salary allowances can increase up to one lakh rupees.

Following the passage of the new bill, wages and allowances of MLAs and former MLAs will be increased in the state.

Trivendra Singh Rawat led-government in Uttarakhand has introduced the amendment bill in the house on Saturday, with respect to increasing wages and allowances of MLAs and former MLAs.

According to reports, the salary of an MLA is likely to be increased from Rs 10,000 to between Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 and the Assembly allowance is likely to go up from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,40,000. Meanwhile, other allowances of Rs 3,000 are recommended to be increased to Rs 12,000.

According to the Association for Democratic Reform, 51 legislators in the Uttarakhand Assembly are crorepatis out of a total 69.

The bill has recommended increasing the salary allowances of Ministers more than two times. Speaker, deputy speaker, assembly speaker and vice-president have recommended raising monthly salary from 54 thousand to more than one lakh.

In Uttarakhand, the MLAs were already well paid and they are going to be even richer.

In January 2014, the Vijay Bahuguna Government had increased the salary allowances of the legislators. On the basis of this, about Rs, 1,57,000 are transferred in the accounts of the legislators per month, while the salary of Speaker and Ministers is more than that.

Earlier, an Adhoc Committee was also formed to increase the allowances of the legislators. The report of the committee was placed in the house three days ago. After this, the cabinet meeting also approved the increase in salaries.

The government has now placed Amendment Bill in the state assembly session If this bill is passed then the wages and allowances of the legislators will increase significantly.

Earlier, Kerela has also passed the same bill which proposed a hike in the salaries and allowances of ministers, MLAs and former legislators.

The salary of Telangana legislators has increased by 163% from Rs 83,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh in March 2016. MLAs from the Telugu state are the highest paid in the country.
