Savitribai Phule, BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh resigned from the party on Thursday, said that BJP was trying to divide society and also accused the NDA government of not implementing reservation for the SC and ST communities.

According to media reports she said, "I am resigning from BJP today. There's a conspiracy to end the Constitution and reservations for Dalit and backward classes."

Phule had been attacking the saffron party leadership for the past several months. She was recently in news for her alleged controversial remarks on Dalits and Lord Hanuman. She claimed that Dalits and backwards are 'Bandar' (monkey), 'rakshas' (demon) and that Hanuman was a Dalit and a slave of 'manuwadi' people.

"I have resigned from the party. But I will continue as a Lok Sabha member till the end of my tenure," Phule said.

Talking about the issue of Ram temple in Ayodhya she said, "The country does not need a temple. Will it end unemployment and other problems of Dalits and the backward community? The temple will benefit Brahmins, who are only 3%. The money offered in temples are used by them for their gains and make our community (the Dalits) their slaves," she had said.

"From today onwards, I have nothing to do with the BJP. My voice was being ignored in the party as I am a Dalit. There is a great conspiracy against Dalits and their rights. The reservation for Dalits and Backwards is also being slowly taken away. I will continue to fight for the Constitution and will hold a mega rally in Lucknow on January 23."
