Young photographer Ankit Kumar was killed this February in Delhi by the family members of the Muslim girl he was in love with. Ankit’s father Yashpal Saxena was the person who stopped the gruesome murder to be communalized. He pleaded the media and the politicians to not give his son’s murder a communal tone.

Four months after Ankit’s death, Yashpal Saxena held an interfaith iftar at his residence in fond remembrance of his son on Sunday. The iftar was attended by their neighbours, Ankit’s friends and several others good Samaritans.

Indian Express quoted Yashpal Saxena, who said, “I am a broken man. There’s no big message that I am seeking to send out. It’s just that people, especially youngsters, are too angry these days. Perhaps Ankit’s murder was fallout of that same anger. I want peace.”

The initiative did not go well with some social media trolls who abused Saxena on Facebook and Twitter. A Twitter user by the name of Shahid Ansari spotted one such tweet from a UP Police official Arvind Singh Parihar.

Ansari took the screenshots of the tweet and brought it to the attention of the official accounts of UP Police. UP Police asked Kanpur Police to investigate the matter (as Parihar stated Kanpur as his location on Twitter). Within hours Kanpur Police tweeted that the matter was investigated and the police officer was suspended with immediate effect, as he was found guilty.
