Every year, the government of India honours the national contributors to the coveted Padma awards. Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the final list of awardees approved by the President Ram Nath Kovind and the names present cannot be more deserving.

Marking the gist of Indian diversity, the list consists of 85 well-known heroes from diverse fields including social welfare, arts, traditional medicine and even recycling of waste. The 85 Padma coveted awards include three Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri.

Among the list of Awardees,  music composer-director Ilaiyaraaja will be conferred with a Padma Vibhushan and sports icons M.S. Dhoni and Pankaj Advani will be honoured with Padma Bhushan whereas shuttler Kidambi Srikanth will receive a Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian sports.

The honour is granted to those who have made a significant contribution to the development of India, irrespective of their high profile set. Notably, this year's list doesn't consist of any Delhiite, a state which consisted of a significant share in Padma awards a few years back.

During this Republic Day parade, India hosted the representatives of 10 ASEAN nations as chief guests, an act which strengthened the relations between India and the southeast Asian grouping while marking 25 years of our collaboration.

Taking a step further to acknowledge and honour India's bond with ASEAN nations, one person from each of the nations will be honoured with a Padma award this year. Along with Malai Haji Abdullah Bin Malai Haji Othman of Brunei, Hun Many of Cambodia, 8 others are being conferred.
