Three Protestors Dead, Several Injured In Kulgam Clash

Three civilians were killed and five were injured during a clash between protesters and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir district Kulgam on Saturday.

The police sources said the clash broke out during a search operation in Redwani village when a group of people raised slogans and started attacking with stones at the security forces.

As per reports, the house where the militants were hiding was destroyed. Two security personnel were also injured in the gunfight. There is no official word on the death of any militant.

An innocent teenaged girl identified as Andleeb along with Ahmed Khanday and Irshad Majeed was the slain civilians killed in the clash.

It’s for the second time in 10 days that the Valley saw civilian casualties during anti-militant operations. Four civilians were also killed during operations on April 1 in Shopian.

Soon after the incident, mobile internet services were suspended in four districts of South Kashmir- Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag and Pulwama. Authorities had also ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in Kulgam.

Parts of Kashmir are under a security blanket as a precautionary measure to maintain peace before the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and a shutdown called by separatists.
