A total of 4 terrorists have been killed, 1 policeman martyred and 2 civilians injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday. Internet services have also been suspended in Srinagar and Anantnag due to the encounter in Anantnag's Srigufwara area.

The Jammu and Kashmir DGP S P Vaid confirmed the death toll in a tweet.

DGP Vaid, in a later tweet from his personal handle said that the slain terrorists are believed to be affiliated to the Islamic State Jammu & Kashmir militant (ISKJ) group.

According to reports, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Srigufwara area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.

The search operation turned into a gunfight after the terrorists fired upon the security forces who then retaliated.

The encounter in Anantnag comes a day after the government announced that NSG (National Security Guard) commandos have been brought into Kashmir to aid in anti-terrorist operations. However, reports have not yet stated whether the NSG were involved in the Anantnag encounter.

Earlier this week, BJP withdrew from the Jammu and Kashmir's ruling coalition government with PDP, and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti subsequently resigned, bringing in Governor's rule to the state.
