At least 6 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Sunday as they were gunned down by security forces while they were attempting an infiltration bid. The terrorists were reportedly attempting to enter India from Pakistan from the Keran sector of Kupwara district.

According to official sources quoted by IndiaTV, Pakistan is sending terrorists from launching pads of Dudhnial and Jura in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The sources added that the terrorists have been trained at the Alpha 3 camp in the Athmuqam area by 28 Baluch of Pakistan Army.

A joint team of the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) guarding the border spotted a group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate the border in Keran sector, official sources said.

"When challenged and asked to surrender, they opened fire. The fire was returned and in the ensuing gun battle, one infiltrator was killed," they said.

Additional security forces were rushed to the site which was then sealed off to thwart any further attempts.

The infiltration attempt taking place on Sunday is said to be similar to the terrorists' efforts of last week when on June 3 security forces killed a terrorist attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC)  between India and Pakistan into Kupwara's Keran sector.

In the aftermath of the infiltration attempts, the army has increased vigil in the Macchal, Keran, Tangdhar, Naugam and Rampur areas.
