Terrorists Attack Jammu's Sunjwan Army Camp, Kills 1 Army Personnel And Injures 3

A group of heavily armed terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed attacked the headquarters of the Army at Sunjwan in Jammu on Saturday around 5 am leaving 1 Army personnel dead, 2 Army men injured and a Daughter of an army man is also injured.

The incident occurred when 3 terrorists entered the camp from the rear side and lobbed grenades and opened firing. Security forces immediately took charge to track down the militants.

Heavy exchange of gunfire is currently on as troops have cornered the militants in the facility.

SD Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu said, "Around 4:55 am suspicious movement was noticed by the santri, santri bunker was fired upon and they retaliated. A number of terrorists are not known. They've been cornered in one of the family quarters. A Hawaldar and his daughter were injured. Operation is on."

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken with to J&K Director General of Police over the phone on the terror attack. Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat has briefed Defence Minister about present situation and operations in Sunjuwan. Rajnath Singh ordered MHA officials to look into the matter.

The camp is located in a busy area where shopping markets, showrooms, and private schools are situated.

Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, District Development Commissioner,  Rajouri, tweeted, "Terror attack in heart of Jammu city is a worrisome development. Just few hundred metres from our home."

The attack comes a day after 5th death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru. He was hanged on February 9 in 2013 following his conviction in the 2001 Parliament Attack case.

The attack took place even after the waring of Intelligence inputs about the attack on the army or security establishment by Jaish-e-Mohammed in view of Afzal Guru's death anniversary. 

This is the second major terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two months. 

On last year December 31, Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists attacked a CRPF training centre in Pulwama, Kashmir. Where 5 security personnel died and 2 terrorists have been killed.
