The Telangana Police on Tuesday arrested seven people in connection to an attack on an inter-caste couple in Nalgonda district of the state where the husband Permulla Pranay Kumar was killed.

The arrested accused are girl’s father Maruthi Rao, Sravan, Mohammed Bari, Congress leader Abdul Karim, Shiva and Subhash Sharma, who allegedly committed the crime.

Nalgonda Supritendant of Police told the media that Sharma, who is the alleged killer, was identified on the basis of the CCTV footage of the hospital.

The police also said that the gang was hired for a sum of Rs. 1 Crore, out of which Rs. 18 Lakh was already paid to the gang

The incident, which occurred last Friday, had also triggered protests by some Dalit groups in Nalgonda.

Amrutha told a news channel that her father had been trying to force her to have an abortion. She said, "I have no intention of aborting my baby. Pranay's baby is my future...he was such a nice person. He looked after me so well, especially after I became pregnant."

What Happened?

According to media reports, Pranay, a Dalit from the SC Mala community had married Amrutha, a woman from the Komati community (Vyshya) in January this year. However, the woman’s father, who had strongly opposed their marriage, allegedly hatched a plan to kill Pranay.

On 14 September, when Pranay and Amrutha, who is five months pregnant, were coming out of a private hospital in Miryalaguda following a health checkup with a gynecologist, an unidentified assailant followed Pranay and attacked him with a machete. Pranay succumbed almost immediately after suffering two heavy blows to his head and neck.
