The Sessions Court in north Goa’s Mapusa town on Thursday decided to charge former Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka magazine Tarun Tejpal for rape. The next hearing for hearing has been fixed by the court for September 28.

Tarun, who has been accused of raping a woman, appeared before the court for an in-camera trial.

The court had earlier granted Tejpal’s plea under CrPC Section 327(2) to conduct the proceedings in the rape case in-camera.

Tejpal is accused of raping a former subordinate colleague at the magazine’s annual conference in Goa in 2013. He is alleged to have raped the young employee in an elevator in a Goa hotel.

He has been charged under Sections 354(A) (sexual harassment), 341 and 342 (wrongful restraint), and 376 (rape), among others, of the IPC.

Tarun was arrested but was granted bail by the Supreme Court in July 2014.
