Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Nominates PM Modi For Nobel Peace Prize 2019 For Ayushman Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received both criticism and applause for his actions in the past, and now, has received a Nobel Peace Prize 2019 nomination as well for launching the world's largest healthcare scheme 'Ayushman Bharat' Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, media reported on Tuesday.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu president Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan has nominated PM Modi for the Nobel Peace Prize and also appealed to others to join her in nominating the PM. Her husband, Professor Dr. P Soundarajan, Head of Department and Senior Consultant in Nephrology at a private university in Tamil Nadu also nominated PM Modi for the Nobel prize.

BJP Chief Soundarajan said in a release, "This path-breaking initiative of visionary Prime Minister Modi will transform the lives of millions of people especially the underprivileged and vulnerable."

She said that the leading cause of poverty in India is healthcare expenditure for tertiary and secondary care and urged healthcare institutions and medical practitioners to fully utilise the scheme which she said would eventually revolutionise the health care delivery system in India.

The Tamil Nadu BJP chief Soundarajan also appealed to all healthcare providers in India and abroad to join her in nominating PM Modi for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.

"The last date for nomination for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 is January 31, 2019. The nomination processes start in September each year. University Professors and Members of Parliament among others can also nominate our Prime Minister Modi," release from the state BJP chief's office said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the world's largest government-funded healthcare programme Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan AarogyaYojana (AB-PMJAY) to benefit 50 crore Indians, from Jharkhand's capital of Ranchi on September 23.

The Ayushman Bharat scheme, which was first mentioned during the 2018 Budget Session of Parliament, aims to provide coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per year per family to 10 crore economically backward families. While the scheme will be implemented in nearly 31 states and union territories, others including Telangana, Odisha, Delhi, Kerala and Punjab have not signed on to the programme with the Centre.

The number of beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat scheme is almost equal to the population of Canada, Mexico and the US taken together.
