Taimur Nagar Shooting: 3 Held For Killing 38-Year-Old Rupesh Kumar

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested 3 people accused in connection with the murder of an anti drug activist in Taimur Nagar area of the National Capital.

The three accused are identified Ajay, Akash and Suraj, they had previous criminal records and are residents of South Delhi.

“The accused are identified as Ajay, Akash and Suraj. The three were arrested in another case of robbery in the area. During interrogation Akash and Ajay confessed to the killing of Rupesh in Taimoor Nagar on 30 September night,” said Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCP) South district.

 “During interrogation the accused also told police official that they had stolen Honda city car from Jangpura area and after committing the crime they dumped the car in Lajpat Nagar,” said the DCP.

“Akash revealed that he had gone to take drugs in the Taimur Nagar area, he had a dispute with the woman who was selling the drug, after which Akash and one of his companions fired and fled the spot and while they were fleeing the spot, Rupesh tried to intervene and they shot him,” said the police

In a letter addressed to the top officials of the Delhi Police, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairman Swati Maliwal today demanded action against the drug trade in Taimur Nagar.

Delhi Commission For Women Chief Swati Maliwal said, “This is an extremely serious lapse on the part of the police. In view of the same, the Commission has set up an enquiry in the matter.”

38-year old Rupesh was shot dead by two unidentified bike-borne assailants and the incident was captured in the CCTV cameras.

The incident had triggered violent protests by residents of the Taimur Nagar locality who alleged that Kumar was killed by drug dealers owing to his anti-drug stance.
