External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj reacted strongly to Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi for his "googly" remark, on Saturday.

She asserted that his remark about Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan bowling a googly at India by sending along an invite to the Kartarpur groundbreaking ceremony was "disrespectful to Sikh sentiments".

She took to her Twitter account and wrote, "Foreign Minister of Pakistan - Your 'googly' remarks in a dramatic manner has exposed none but you. This shows that you have no respect for Sikh sentiments. You only play 'googlies'.

"Let me explain to you that we were not trapped by your 'googlies'. Our two Sikh ministers went to Kartarpur Sahib to offer prayers in the Holy Gurudwara", she added.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the Kartarpur Corridor linking two revered gurdwaras on both sides of the border in Kartarpur in Punjab province.

Union ministers from India, Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri, along with Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, attended the event in Pakistan Punjab province's Narowal area.

On Thursday, Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi had said Prime Minister Khan bowled a "googly" to ensure Indian government's presence at the groundbreaking ceremony of the landmark Kartarpur Corridor.

"The world watched, Pakistan watched, that PM Imran Khan bowled a googly at Kartarpur. As a result of the googly, India, that had refused to engage with Pakistan, had to send two ministers to Pakistan to engage. We are happy they came, as ours is a message of peace," he said.

Qureshi said when he was addressing an audience of lawmakers and ruling party supporters at a function to mark 100 days of the Khan government.

Sushma Swaraj urged Pakistan PM Imran Khan to come clean on his foreign minister's comment that the premier had tricked India over the Kartarpur corridor.

According to media reports the Pakistan Foreign Office released a statement in which it was informed that the Kartarpur Corridor initiative was taken solely to fulfil the longstanding wishes of "our Sikh brethren" and criticised the "negative propaganda campaign" against the historic move.

"We are deeply dismayed at the relentless negative propaganda campaign being waged by a section of the Indian media against Pakistan on the 'Kartarpur Corridor' Initiative," the Foreign Office said in a statement.
