The Supreme Court on Friday refused to interfere with the Delhi High Court order to grant an anticipatory bail to Karti Chidambaram in the alleged INX media money laundering case.

Politician and businessman, Karti is a son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram.

According to reports in media, a bench of Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan said, "It is not needed to intervene with the bail granted by the Delhi High Court to Karti," leaving the question of law open.

Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing on the behalf of CBI reacting to the verdict said the question of law has to be kept open as Delhi High court decision to grant bail may be a result of favorable judgment.

CBI in its plea claimed that it was impermissible in law to grant bail to Karti when an application regarding the similar matter was pending before the trial court.

The Delhi High Court on March 23 had granted bail to Karti. The Delhi HC had reserved its verdict on March 16 after hearing the arguments on behalf of Karti, and against him by the CBI which had opposed the grant of bail.

Karti has been accused of getting government clearance for foreign investments worth around Rs. 300 crores in television company INX Media in exchange for bribes in 2007 when his father P Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister.
