TV producer and editor of Bureaucracy Today magazine Suhaib Ilyasi, best known as the face of popular TV show ‘India’s most wanted’ has been convicted by Delhi’s Karkardooma Court in connection with the death of his wife Anju Ilyasi.

His wife Anju Ilyasi died of stab wounds on 11 January 2000. She was rushed to the hospital but could not make it. Ilyasi had told the police that Anju has stabbed herself.

Ilyasi was initially arrested for harassing his wife for dowry that allegedly led to her death. In August 2014, the Delhi High Court ordered framing of murder charges against Ilyasi while while deciding two separate pleas of Ilyasi and his mother-in-law, Rukma Singh.

"The prima facie material collected by the prosecution justifies the framing of additional charge under Section 302 (murder) of IPC. The revision petition is disposed of with a direction to the trial court to frame additional charge under Section 302 of IPC", said Justice Indermeet Kaur.

Rukma Singh had sought inclusion of the additional charge of murder against Ilyasi for her daughter's death on January 11, 2000 in her plea. Section 302 of Indian Penal Code entails death penalty as the maximum punishment.

As per news reports the trial court in east Delhi's Karkardooma will start hearing on sentencing Ilyasi from Wednesday, December 20.
