Speeding Vehicle Kills 9 School children, Injures 20 In Bihar's Muzaffarpur

A tragic accident was reported from Bihar's Muzaffarpur on Saturday where Nine school children were killed and 24 were injured after a vehicle rammed into them before hitting the school building just after the classes were over.

The students were crossing the road when a Bolero car came at a high speed, hitting the kids and eventually crashing into the school wall. After the incident, the driver fled from the spot. Protestors gathered around and blocked the road, demanding the arrest of the driver.

Vivek Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarpur, told PTI that, "The incident took place at Ahiyapur-Jhapaha in Minapur police station area of the district where a Bolero ran over the children who were returning to their homes after the school was over,"

"All the injured are said to be around 20 in number, have been rushed to the Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The condition of some of them was stated to be critical" he further added.

Munna Yadav, RJD MLA from Minapur, alleged that the driver of the vehicle was "definitely inebriated and his drunken state became the cause of the incident.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of Rs 4 Lakh to the families of the deceased and also stated that the state government will bear the expenses of treatment of the injured.
