Shujaat Bukhari Murder Case: Fourth Suspect Arrested

In a recent development, the fourth suspect in the murder of veteran journalist Shujaat Bukhari was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday.


Earlier, the photo of the four suspects was released by the Jammu and Kashmir to seek help from the general public in the identification of the murder. The police had also released a CCTV footage of the suspects who were riding on a motorcycle.


While addressing the media after the arrest had been made, Swayam Prakash Pani, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir said,” The pistol that was missing from the crime has been recovered and he is being questioned about his presence at the scene of the crime. So far, he has not been able to give any convincing answers.”

IGP Pani added, “As far as the case is concerned at this stage, it is a terrorist-related crime."

According to the police, Zubair Qayoom, a resident of Srinagar’s Kanitar-Saderbal area, stayed at the assassination scene and was apparently pulling out the bodies from Bukhari’s vehicle. The suspect was seen in a video picking up a pistol of the injured policeman.

The IG said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been constituted to investigate the matter, led by DIG, Central Kashmir. He said that the inquiry team has been ordered to conduct a thorough investigation of this matter. The IG also said that with the help of ordinary people a suspect related to the case has been detained, after which he is being questioned.

The other 3 suspects continue to remain at large.
