Security Forces Kills 2 Militants In Kashmir’s Budgam

Two terrorists were killed by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam on Wednesday morning in the third encounter in three days in which eight ultras have been targeted.

Police said a cordon and search operation was launched late on Tuesday night by the state police and the Indian Army in the area based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Gopalpora area of Chadoora in Budgam.

"Based on a credible input about the presence of terrorists in the Gopalpora area of Chadoora in Budgam district, a cordon and search operation was launched in the intervening night (of Tuesday and Wednesday)," a police spokesman said.

Security forces were fired upon by the militants as the search was on, police said. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight, they said.

In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies have been retrieved from the site of encounter. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation in the matter.

Earlier, on Sunday, five militants were killed in an encounter that raged for six hours in South Kashmir’s Kellam Devsar in Kulgam district.

The encounter broke out at 6 am after a joint team of Police, Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.
