SC Rakes BJP Delhi Chief Manoj Tiwari, Says We'll Make You The Sealing Officer

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Bhartiya Janta Party MP Manoj Tiwari to file an affidavit explaining his conduct in the Delhi Sealing matter.

A three-judge bench comprising of Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice S Abdul came down heavily on the BJP lawmaker over his conduct during the Delhi Sealing drive.

Justice Lokur who was heading the three-judge bench slamming the Delhi BJP Chief said, “You don’t worry, leave it to us. In the affidavit, you list the 1000 properties. You go and seal it. We will make you a sealing officer”

“If you had any problem you could have approached the court but you had no authority to take the law into your hands,” the bench told Tiwari

The Delhi Bhartiya Janta Party chief was present before the court in pursuance to the contempt notice issued to him for allegedly breaking the seal of a premises which was being run in violation of the Delhi Master Plan.

On September 16, BJP chief Manoj Tiwari broke off the lock of a sealed house in the Gokalpur area of Delhi, the video of which went viral on Monday. The ongoing sealing drive in Delhi which has resulted in considerable protests is being conducted by the BJP-ruled municipal corporations in the city at the direction of the Supreme Court.

Breaking the lock of the house, Tiwari had said, "If there are 1000 houses there then why was only one sealed? I oppose this pick and choose system so I broke the sealed lock."
