Sawai Madhopur Accident: Pilgrim Bus Falls Of Bridge Into River Killing 32

A 40-seater passenger bus carrying pilgrims through Sawai Madhopur's Dubi area skewed off a bridge and jumped into the Banas river on Saturday killing 32 passengers while injuring 7 others. Reportedly, 3 others are missing from the spot.

The passengers were on their way to a pilgrimage temple at Malana Dabi area of Sawai Madhopur from Hindaun city. Police state that the cause of the accident was driver's lost control of the vehicle, dropping the bus into 100 feet Morel river. 

While the driver and many other drowned, many bodies are still missing. Maman Singh, Superintendent of police, Sawai Madhopur said, "Thirty-two people are killed and 12 bodies have been taken out while three others are seriously injured."

The passengers came from the varied states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam to offer prayers at the pilgrimage. The 26 bodies recovered so far are yet to be identified and have been kept in the mortuary of the district hospital.

The surviving passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital by a team of police divers and villagers and are receiving treatment through all private medical facilities. The wrecked bus was pulled out the river by a crane and gas cutters.

10 bodies have been handed to their families after the post-mortem while rest are waiting for identification. The rescue operation at the spot is monitored by District Collector Kailash Chand Verma and Superintendent of Police Maman Singh.
