In the wake of a shooting in Noida, where a policeman opened fire on two youths on Saturday, the Samajwadi Party on Sunday accused the Uttar Pradesh Police of 'staging encounters' in order to receive promotions, adding that the youths were victims of a 'fake encounter'.

On Monday, the party reiterated its allegations in the Rajya Sabha during the Parliament Budget Session.

Samajwadi Party spokesperson Pankhuri Pathak alleged that the UP police were shooting 'innocents' for promotions and that government was trying to keep the issue away from media.

He is fighting for his life in Fortis Hospital. @Uppolice officers shooting innocents for promotions. Plz RT," party spokesperson Pankhuri Pathak tweeted.
