Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat landed in a controversy on Monday morning over his recent comments that the RSS has the ability to prepare an "army" to fight for the country in 3 days, which would take the Army 6-7 months.

"Sangh will prepare military personnel within three days which the Army would do in 6-7 months. This is our capability. Swayamsewak will be ready to take on the front if the country faces such a situation and Constitution permits to do so)," Bhagwat said, addressing workers at a Zila school ground in Muzaffarpur.

Describing the Sangh as neither a military nor a para-military organisation, but rather a "parivarik sangathan" (family organisation), Bhagwat said that the discipline practiced in it is like the Army. He added that "the workers are always happily ready to make supreme sacrifice for their country".

Congres President Rahul Gandhi condemned the comments of Bhagwat and called for an apology.

"The RSS Chief's speech is an insult to every Indian, because it disrespects those who have died for our nation. It is an insult to our flag because it insults every soldier who ever saluted it. Shame on you Mr Bhagwat, for disrespecting our martyrs and our Army," Tweeted Rahul Gandhi.

Other twitterati slammed Bhagwat's comments, alleging them to be an insult to the army, especially at a time when the Army is facing difficulties in Jammu and Kashmir and relations are tense on the Indo-China border. A few, however, came to the defence of Bhagwat, saying that he was simply offering the aid of the RSS in addition to the Army.
