Reaching Out To Dalit Community, UP CM Yogi Adityanath Holds First 'Chaupal'

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in an attempt to lose his tag of being 'anti-Dalit' is reaching out to the Dalit community by holding chaupals (village meetings) and dining with them, the first of which was held on Monday.

CM Yogi held the first village chaupal at the Kandhaipur Madhupur village in Pratapgarh district on Monday, where he reviewed the law and order situation and development projects along with minister in charge of the district Swati Singh. CM Yogi also paid a surprise visit to the tehsils, local police stations, hospitals and slums of Pratapgarh and met with local representatives.

During the interaction with the Madhupur villagers CM Yogi broke standard protocol by asking all the women present at the chaupal to interact with him as well.

CM Yogi also provided keys of the houses given to beneficiaries under Pradhanmantri Awas Yojna, performed 'ann parashan' (ceremony to feed first grain) to five kids of the Madhupur village and blessed five pregnant women at the venue.

Discussing the delivery of government schemes to the people, CM Yogi took to task the DM, Chief Development Officer and District Panchayati Raj Officer after he found out from the villagers that many of the benefits of government schemes had not reached them. Later, CM Yogi had dinner with a Dalit family of the same village.

The BJP has been under fire from the Opposition over allegations that the saffron party does not care about or safeguard the interests of the Dalit community, after the Supreme Court diluted the SC/ST Act, despite the Centre filing a review petition.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a 'Save The Constitution' year-long campaign for the rights of the Dalit community and to protect the constitution.
