Rajinikanth Is Silent On Several Issues, Not Only Cauvery: Kamal Haasan

Veteran actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan who recently launched his political party 'Makkal Neethi Maiam' has been quite vocal on various issues pertaining to Tamil Nadu politics, in a contrast to superstar Rajinikanth who also expressed intentions to join politics.

Regarding Rajinikanth's silence on the Cauvery water sharing issue, Kamal Haasan on Monday said that his contemporary has not reacted to several issues, therefore it was wrong to talk about his 'silence' on the Cauvey matter.

"This is not the only issue on which Rajinikanth has not expressed his opinion. But there are several other issues also and it is not right to point at only one issue," Haasan said to reporters in Coimbatore.

Although Rajinikanth on December 31, 2017 had announced his entry into politics and subsequently released his political party's symbol, he is yet to officially launch or name the party.

Critics and political opponents have slammed the delay, to which Rajinikanth responded saying, “I don't expect you to roll out the red carpet for me, but don't create hurdles for me… Jayalalithaa is no more and Karunanidhi is ill. Tamil Nadu needs a leader. I will come and fill that vacuum. God is on my side.”

Apart from the Cauvery issue, Kamal Haasan also expressed his support for the implementation of the long pending Athikadavu-Avanashi Water project during the second leg of his state-wide tour on March 11.

Both Tamil actors making their entry into politics, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, have been cordial regarding the transition. Kamal Haasan in the past also said that an alliance with Rajinikanth could also not be ruled out, unless his colour is 'saffron', representing the BJP.
