Congress might have lost Gujarat elections but the party's performance was lauded by all. Congress President Rahul Gandhi himself praised his party workers for their unparallel contribution and thanked the voters for supporting their party.

To assess the shortcomings during elections and work on the betterment of party work while deciding the future course of action, Gandhi started his 3-day Gujarat tour on Saturday by offering prayers at the Somnath temple in Gir Somnath district.

Established at the distance of 420 km from Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar, the holy temple was visited by Congress President before the state's polling as well. Rahul visited the pilgrimage supposedly to thank the almighty for his support.

Later on Saturday, Gandhi will head a meeting the party's state leaders and review the party's performance in the Gujarat assembly elections. The newly appointed Congress President will also meet all elected legislatures and party workers from across the state.

Following his meeting with the leaders from North, Central, Saurashtra and South Zone, Rahul will head to the Gujarat University Convention Hall at GNBC ground in Ahmedabad for the party workers' meet.

BJP claimed a majority in Gujarat to form a government for the 5th consecutive term by winning 99 seats whereas Congress had to settle for only 80 seats. An independent legislator Ratansinh Rathod also joined the ruling party on Friday after being expelled by Congress.
