Police Catches Murder Accused In Ballabhgarh Lynching

In notable development in the Ballabhgarh Lynching that caused national outrage, the police, on Saturday, arrested the man who allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old boy in a local train near Ballabhgard few days before Eid.

Haryana Government Railway Police said, “One of the prime accused in the sensational lynching of 16-year-old Junaid Khan in a train last month has been arrested in Dhule, northern Maharashtra.”

The police added that the accused has confessed to the crime of stabbing Junaid and his brothers.

The police said, “We are yet to recover the murder weapon. The accused was produced in a court in Dhule and is being brought to Faridabad for further interrogation.” The fugitive was hiding in Dhule since the incident, which triggered nationwide outrage, added the police official.

Naresh, the accused hails from Palwal district of Haryana. He used to travel to Delhi on a regular basis in search of a job. Along one of these journeys, on June 22, Naresh with a dozen others got into a fight with the victim, Junaid and his cousin brothers Hasim Moin and Shakir Moin, when the brothers refused to give up their seats as demanded by Naresh and others.

Upon refusal to meet their demand, Naresh along with the others assaulted the brothers and dumped them out of the train across Asaoti railway station in Palwal district after stabbing Junaid.

The accused is likely to be produced before a Dhule magistrate for a transit remand on Sunday and later handed over to the police in Delhi.

Earlier, the Haryana Police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for any information on the accused after he went missing. Just days ago, the police had raised the reward money from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh.
