PM Modi Sells Development In Nagaland, Congress Apathy In Meghalaya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the election going states of Meghalaya and Nagaland. Addressing multiple public meetings Modi appealed to the people of both the states to put their faith in BJP and give them a chance in the state.

He reached Nagaland in the morning where he addressed a public meeting in Tuensang, which is the largest district of the state. The Prime Minister delivered his speech in Hindi, which was simultaneously translated into the local language.

He said BJP’s agenda was development and appealed to the people to support the party for a stable, inclusive and corruption-free government in the state.

Modi said that the government will spend around Rs. 1800 crores for making Nagaland’s capital Kohima a Smart City. He also spoke of the Saubhagya Yojana and said more than 10 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed in the state, reducing power consumption.

The Prime Minister also spoke on the challenge of improving the connectivity of the state and said, “We are working relentlessly towards eliminating it. In less than 4 years, we have added 500 km of National Highways. We have also planned to invest more than Rs 10,000 crores in the roads of Nagaland.”

“We would ensure that the funds released for your state reaches you. With the help of technology, we are slowly plugging the loopholes, which have been causing the wastage of public money” he added.

The Prime Minister addressed a public meeting in Phulbari, Meghalaya after Nagaland. In Meghalaya, he said the Congress Government had wasted 50 years and asked the people of the state to give BJP a chance. Taking a dig at Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Modi said that while the CM himself is a doctor, the healthcare sector in Meghalaya was in a bad shape.

“Women are forced to deliver babies at home which poses a great threat to the lives of mother and baby’” he added.

PM Modi said that the state had immense potential for tourism and added that his government has planned to spend Rs 180 crores for building the new Shillong airport to improve the possibility of industrial development along with tourism.

He hailed the rescue of father Prem Alexis, father Tom Uzhannalil and the nurses from Iraq.

“Father Alexis Prem Kumar SJ was abducted in Afghanistan by Taliban terrorists. The family was in pain. After 18 months of concerted efforts, the BJP govt brought him back to India.” He said.

“The safety, security and responsibility of each Indian lie on our shoulders. BJP is committed to safeguarding the interests of one and all.” He added.

Meghalaya and Nagaland go to polls on 27th February. The counting of votes for Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland will begin on March 3.
