PM Narendra Modi Inaugrates Advantage Assam Global Investors Summit 2018

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Assam's first global investors summit on Saturday in Guwahati. Advantage Assam: Global Investors Summit 2018, aims to showcase its manufacturing opportunities and geostrategic advantages to foreign and domestic investors.

The two-day event also aims to highlight Assam's geostrategic advantages and core competencies in different sectors along with the policy initiatives taken by the state government.

Assam Chief Minister Sabarnanda Sonowal met the Prime Minister at LGBI Airport in the city this morning.

The Summit has been organised by the Assam Government, in association with the industry body the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), aiming to position the state as India's Expressway to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

PM addressed the summit and said that the event will showcase the state’s investment potential to countries in South and South East Asia, in sectors including manufacturing, services, power, agriculture and food processing, IT, transportation, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles and handicrafts and tourism. 

PM further said, "I am happy to know that Assam is ranked first in the ease of doing business report."

The Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay also graced the summit.

Apart from the Prime Minister, several Union ministers including Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Smriti Irani, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jitendra Singh and Kiren Rijiju attended the summit.

At the summit Reliance Industries CMD Mukesh Ambani announced that his company will invest Rs 2,500 crores in Assam inretail, petroleum, telecom, tourism and sports.

Assam is ranked first among the North Eastern States in the Ease of Doing Business report. The state government led by Chief Minister Sonowal is looking tofurther improve its position to emerge as one of the most sought-after states for investment.
