Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been pulling out all stunts ahead of the assembly elections in his home-state Gujarat, and on Tuesday, after his proposed roadshow in Ahmedabad was cancelled, he is flying on the first seaplane of India.

After taking off from the Sabarmati River, the seaplane is to land on the pond of the Dharoi dam, from where PM Modi would travel by road to the temple of Ambaji.

"Our party had planned my road show. However, the administration has not given permission and I had time so I decided to go to Ambaji in the sea-plane," PM Modi said.

"We cannot have airports everywhere, so our government has planned to have these sea-planes," he said, adding that around 106 such waterways have been planned across the country.

Newly declared Congress President Rahul Gandhi had also planned a roadshow through Ahmedabad on Tuesday but he was also denied permission as the police feared a law and order situation may occur with multiple roadshows through crowded areas.

The extensive campaigning that has been taking place ahead of the Gujarat elections comes to an end on Tuesday night as the Model Code of Conduct will be placed into affect ahead of the second and final phase of the Gujarat election on December 14.
