The Patiala Court on Saturday sent former media star Peter Mukerjea to judicial custody till April 13. Earlier last week the court had granted the Central Bureau of Investigation 5 days custody of Mukerjea after the investigation bureau said it had fresh evidence and leads in the INX media case and that it wanted to question Mukerjea in the presence of Karti Chidambaram, the son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram. Karti is also an accused in the INX Media case.

The case relates to a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval granted to INX Media, founded by the Mukerjeas, for receiving foreign funds in 2007. CBI alleges that Karti Chidambaram was a beneficiary of kickbacks for the FIPB approvals.

The CBI on Saturday argued in the court that Peter Mukerjea did not cooperate with the investigators because of which the agency could not confront him with Karti Chidambaram or his chartered accountant.

CBI officials told the media that they would not take Mukerjea to Mumbai and he would be produced for the next dates through video conferencing only. Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani are both accused in the Sheena Bora Murder case. Sheena was Indrani’s daughter from her previous murder.
