A total of 18 people were arrested on Thursday in connection with the attack on a school bus in Haryana's Gurugram on Wednesday. Prominent protesting group Karni Sena denied having any role in the attacks on the school bus.

Karni Sena spokesperson Vijendra Singh said, "Rajputs can never even think of attacking a school bus. This is a plot being created by politicians, who wish to weaken our peaceful protest."

On Wednesday, a school bus of the GD Goenka World School with more than 2 dozen school children on board was attacked amidst protests against the release of controversial Bollywood film Padmaavat.

The windows were shattered but the children and teachers were safe as they crouched on the floor of the bus between the seats.

The children on the bus were students of nursery to Class 12 and were returning home from school around 3 PM when the bus was attacked. The driver managed to drive the bus to safety.

The attack on the school bus was slammed by politicians, including Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

After the incident, several schools near Delhi, and at least 4 top schools of Gurugram announced a holiday in view of the violent protests.

"If they can attack school buses and Haryana roadways buses openly despite prohibitory orders and tight security arrangements of the Gurgaon Police, we cannot take a chance," a teacher said.
