A station house officer named Vaibhav Krishna was arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Noida city and later suspended from duty in connection with an extortion case on Tuesday.

Three journalists were also arrested after an operation to trap the accused was launched yesterday.

Another inspector Jaiveer Singh is said to be on the run. The three journalists were identified as Sushil Pandit, Udit Goyal, and Raman Thakur.

They were extorting money amounting to Rs 8 lakh from an owner of a call centre for removing his name from an FIR which was registered against him in November last year.

A Mercedes Car was also seized from one of the journalists, which prima facie, seems to be associated with some criminal activity. The amount, Rs 8 lakh, along with one pistol was also recovered from their possession.

Earlier, in June 2018 a similar incident took place in Noida. The station house officer of Sector 58 police station and a senior sub-inspector posted at the same station were suspended following an allegation that they demanded Rs 18 lakh from a call centre owner to settle a false case against them.
