An editor of a news channel has been booked for allegedly raping a woman employee that he had hired as a vice-president of the company, the police said on Saturday. The woman, in her complaint to the police, said that the editor forced her to resign from her post after she refused to give in to his demands. The editor, meanwhile, has claimed that the case has been registered to malign him and that no-one of the woman's name had been hired as company VP.

Describing the situation, the woman said that in July 2017, the editor called her to his house when she approached him with a harassment complaint against a few men at her former company in Ghaziabad, reported TOI. The editor requested police to file a complaint on the basis of the statement of the woman, after which the men were arrested.

The next month, in August, the editor called the woman to a 5-star hotel in central Delhi and allegedly sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marriage, when the woman came to know he was already married with 2 kids. The woman confronted the editor who then offered to pay her money to not reveal the incident to anyone, but when she refused, she was threatened.

On the basis of the woman's statement, and WhatsApp details of conversations between her and the editor, a case was registered for rape and criminal intimidation.

Additional CP, (New Delhi) B K Singh confirmed the registration of the case at the Tughlaq Road police station for rape and criminal intimidation.

The accused editor, speaking to TOI claimed that the case was registered to malign him.

"We had no one of the name working as a vice-president in the company. I am cooperating with the police, the matter would be clear once the probe is complete,” said the editor.
