New Communication Policy Expected In July: Manoj Sinha

Union Minister for Communication Manoj Sinha on Tuesday held a press conference to announce the achievements of the ministry of Communication which is under his charge. He told that a new telecom policy is expected to be up in the month of July this year.

Addressing the media Sinha said, ”By July-end I am hopeful that the Cabinet approval will come for the National Digital Communications Policy.”

Citing the achievement and growth of the sector the Union Minister said, "When this government came to power, the sector was in turmoil. There was trust deficit among stakeholders which we have reestablished now."

"An approval by the Reserve Bank of India is awaited to start 650 branches of the India Post Payments Bank which will be connected with all 1.5 lakh post office branches across the country. Upon its commencement, it would create India's largest banking network." Sinha said.

He said his ministry was working to create a separate insurance company under the Department of Post.

The Government has recently issued the National Digital Communications Policy (NDCP) that aims to provide access to every household with a download speed of 50 Mbps, attract investment of around Rs 6.5 lakh crore in the sector and create 4 million new job opportunities with a few years.
