Mumbai Rains: 5 Injured As Potion Of Gokhale Bridge Collapses Near Andheri

A total of 5 people have been injured after a portion of the Gokhale road-over bridge near Andheri station in Mumbai collapsed on Tuesday morning due to heavy rains. A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team was called in as well as the Mumbai Fire Brigade. R Kudvalkar from the Railway Protection Force confirmed that 5 people have been injured and that no more are believed to be trapped under the debris.

Due to the collapse of the road over bridge, Over Head Equipment (OHE) including wires were damaged, affecting train operations. Passengers travelling on the Harbour line were affected between the Andheri and Bandra station and were allowed to travel from the Central Railway line via Ghatkopar towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station. Crowd management machinery has been boosted on the Central Railway to manage the influx of passengers from the Harbour Line.

Mumbai has been receiving continuous heavy rains since Monday evening, resulting in water logging in several areas. The Mumbai Police reported water-logging from areas including Shyam Talav, Hindmata, Oberoi Mall, WEH, CST Road, Kurla, Mahim Junction and Nehru Nagar bridge, advising commuters to avoid these routes.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further heavy rains in parts on Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday and Wednesday while the rainfall is expected to continue throughout the week.

Earlier on June 25, a total of 2 people were reported dead and 5 injured when a tree fell on them due to heavy rains in Mumbai's Marine Line area. Transport system also got affected due to the heavy rainfall in the city.
