The workers of Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena protested against unaffordable prices of popcorn, beverages and other food items in cinema halls. MNS worker Kishore Shinde with his co-workers physically assaulted a theatre manager in Pune on Thursday. The video got viral on the internet in which the MNS workers were seen slapping and abusing the manager.

MNS workers said that popcorn worth Rs. 5 are being sold at Rs. 250 in movie theatres despite Bombay High Court saying that the price needs to be reduced.

Kishor Shinde told ANI, "We asked the manager to read news reports, he said, don't know how to read Marathi. Then we dealt with him MNS style."

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday observed that the food sold in multiplexes is very expensive. The Bench said, "The prices of food and beverages sold in multiplexes are exorbitant. Sometimes, some food articles there are more expensive than even the movie tickets. We understand if the state can't permit the public to carry food from home. But, then why can't it step in and regulate the prices of food sold inside the cinema theatres."

The bench observed some other discomforts that people face in the multiplex. They noted that senior citizens or those suffering from some medical problem diseases such as diabetes, often need to eat at regular intervals and that they can't afford the food that is sold at the multiplexes.

The bench has ordered the State Government to take a notice of the issue and make necessary regulations regarding the prices of food items in the multiplex.
