8 Militants, 2 Jawans & 1 Civilian Killed In 3 Jammu And Kashmir Encounters

As the encounters in Jammu and Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Shopian came to an end on Sunday, the total death toll reached 11, consisting of 8 militants, 2 jawans and 1 civilian.

Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid confirmed the death toll while addressing media. 

"All 7 terrorists killed in Shopian's Dragad have been identified as locals and their bodies have been claimed by their kin," said SP Vaid.

"Two army jawans lost their lives in encounter in J&K's Shopian," he said. 

"One civilian was killed in Shopian's Dragad and one in Kachdoora. 25 civilians received pellet injuries and 6 received bullet injuries," said SP Vaid, on encounters in J&K's Anantnag and Shopian.

While one militant, identified as Rouf Bashir Khanday, was killed in an encounter in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, the 7 others were killed in the Dragad area of Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. An accomplice of Rouf Bashir, identified as Amir was captured in the Anantnag encounter.

A joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir police and the CRPF launched 3 separate operations on Saturday night after receiving intelligence on the presence of militants in Anantnag and Shopian.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants in the Peth Dialgam area of Anantnag. Militants fired upon the security forces, turning the search operation into an encounter, a police official said. In the retaliatory firing by the security forces, one militant was killed.

Meanwhile, in the Shopian district of south Kashmir, two separate encounters are underway at the Dragad and Kachidora areas of the district. A total of 7 militants were killed in the Dragad village encounter.

In the past 3 days, unidentified gunmen have killed two Special Police Officials and also injured the wife of an SPO.
