Metro Services In Agra, Kanpur And Meerut By 2024: UP Govt

Metro services are currently available in 10 cities across India, revolutionising public means of travel by providing quick and comfortable transport.

The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to add 3 more cities to the list by 2024, by starting metro services in Agra, Kanpur and Meerut, at a total estimated cost of Rs 43,800 crore, state cabinet minister and UP government spokesperson Sidharth Nath Singh said on Wednesday.

"Metro services will be started in Agra, Kanpur and Meerut cities. The entire project will be completed by 2024," Singh said to reporters.

He added that the decision to start the services in the 3 cities was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Singh said that as per the proposal, there would be two metro corridors in the famous tourist destination of Agra, at an estimated cost of more than Rs 13,000 crore.

"The Kanpur project will have 31 stations and it will be 30-km-long costing over Rs. 17,000 crore, while Meerut metro project will be of 33 km costing over Rs. 13,800 crore," said Singh.

The decision regarding the 3 new metro rails comes soon after the Yogi Adityanath-led government approved the setting up of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation on the lines of the Maharashtra Rail Corporation.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation is to be restructured.
