Muḥammad Neyazuddin Khan alias Munna Khan was allegedly shot dead in Bihar's Sitamarhi district for raising voice against corruption in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY), media reported on Wednesday.

Khan, a brother-in-law of the Sarpanch (village head) of Purvi Akhta village, was shot dead by Fida Hussain, husband of village Mukhiya Shahnaz Khatoon.

Mushtaque Khan, a villager was quoted by IANS as saying, "Khan was shot dead after he repeatedly raised the issue of bribery demanded from the beneficiaries of PMAY."

Prabhakar also said, "Khan's wife Nazis Khatoon and his daughter Imroz Khatoon were also beaten by the accused. Both are undergoing treatment in a hospital."

One of the villagers said that Khan had exposed the corruption in the PMAY and held a street meeting to discuss the issue. The street meeting held by Khan had angered Fida.

"Soon after the meeting on September 14, Khan was abused and threatened by Fida and his men, but some villagers intervened and the matter was settled. He was again manhandled by Fida and his men on Tuesday and they threatened to eliminate him," said another villager.

Based on the statement of Khan's family members the local police have lodged a complaint against the nine accused including Fida.

The search operation to nab the nine accused is underway as all the accused are said to be absconding since the incident.
