The Shia Central Waqf Board, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reportedly urged the PM to shut down madrassas in the country, alleging that the education imparted in them encourages students to become terrorists.

In the letter, the Shia Central Waqf Board, chairman Waseem Rizvi suggested that all madrassa boards be dissolved and be replaced by schools affiliated to the CBSE or ICSE and offer Islamic education as an optional subject.

"Madrasas should be affiliated to CBSE,ICSE, and allow non-Muslim students, religious education should be made optional. Have written to PM and UP CM in this regard. It will make our country even stronger," Rizvi said to ANI.

The chairman of the said that most of the madrassas in the nation are not recognised and the students passing out are moving towards unemployment.

"How many Madrasas have produced engineers, doctors, IAS officers? Yes but some Madrasas have produced terrorists," Rizvi said.

Rizvi claimed that these madrassas that were opening up in almost every city, town and village were providing "misplaced and misconceived religious education". He alleged that the madrassas were being funded from Pakistan and Bangladesh, and even by some terror outfits.

President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Asaduddin Owaisi, slammed the statement made by Rizvi.

"Wasim Rizvi is the biggest joker, the most opportunistic person. He has sold his soul to RSS. I challenge this buffoon to show one Shia or Sunni or Madrasa where such teachings are imparted. If he has proof then he should go and show it to the Home Minister," Owaisi said to ANI.
