The infamous former President of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union Kanhaiya Kumar may have faded from the public eye, but his journey into politics is clearly just beginning.

Although it is confirmed that Kanhaiya would be fighting in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a Communist Party of India (CPI) ticket, his constituency will likely be Begusarai in Bihar, although he reportedly also has the offer to contest the next general elections from Kerala.

The CPI national council secretary KR Naraina, speaking to media, said that the Bihar party unit has demanded that Kanhaiya contest from Begusarai where the party faces a neck-and-neck fight with the BJP which won the last two elections from the seat by a small margin. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav may also support Kanhaiya's candidature, increasing the chances of winning the seat from the BJP.

Kanhaiya is said to have agreed to contest from Bihar and is already making preparations for the elections. However, the final decision on which seat Kanhaiya would contest from would be taken after discussion with other coalition parties as the CPI is interested in contesting the elections in alliance with the RJD and Congress.

While the RJD has said that it is difficult to agree with the Left parties on seat sharing, for a candidate like Kanhaiya Kumar they might agree.
