Lok Sabha Polls 2019: Congress Releases Third List Of 18 Candidates, Includes Former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma

The Congress on Friday released its third list of 18 candidates fielding former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma from the Tura Parliamentary constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for seats in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.

Among the third list of candidate declared by the Congress after a meeting of the party's central election committee are:

*Two Lok Sabha constituencies in Meghalaya.

*Five of the 14 seats in Assam.

*Eight of the 17 constituencies in Telangana and one each for Sikkim, Nagaland and Uttar Pradesh.

All India Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev has been fielded from the Silchar Lok Sabha seat and Gaurav Gogoi from the Kaliabor seat in Assam. Sitting MP Gaurav Gogoi from Kaliabor seat in Assam.

Former Union ministers Vincent H Pala and Paban Singh Ghatowar will contest from Shillong in Meghalaya, and Dibrugarh, Assam. Pala is also the current MP from Shillong.

Senior SC leader P L Punia's son Tanuj Punia has been nominated to contest from Barabanki (SC) seat in Uttar Pradesh. The party has also nominated Swarup Das from Karimganj (SC) and Sushanta Borgohain from Jorhat (both Assam), K L Chisti from Nagaland and Bharat Basnett from Sikkim.

The Congress has fielded Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who resigned from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in November, in Chevella constituency, while Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Working President A Revanth Reddy will contest from Malkajgiri seat.

With the third list out, Congress has so far nominated 54 candidates for the general elections including the names of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Rahul Gandhi. The elections will be conducted in seven phases starting from April 11 till May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
