With just a few weeks to go for the first phase of Lok Sabha election, another celebrity joined politics. Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar on Wednesday joined the Congres after meeting the party president Rahul Gandhi.
“I am not here only for the election. I am here to stay. I am here because I believe in Congress’ ideology,” Matondkar has said.
Matondkar, who has acted in many films, shot into the limelight after her role in ‘Rangeela’ in 1995. The 45-year-old has taken up humanitarian causes and is concerned about women and child welfare.
In the recent past, leading Marathi actors Shilpa Shinde and Asawari Joshi have joined the Congress.
The move comes weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in which BJP-led NDA government is seeking to retain the power even as the Opposition parties will seek to dethrone the Modi government.
