RJD Supremo Lalu Yadav, convicted in the fodder scam case was on Monday afternoon discharged from AIIMS and sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi for his further treatment. The development came within hours of Congress President Rahul Gandhi visiting Yadav in AIIMS.

Lalu Yadav wanted to continue at AIIMS and even shot off a letter to AIIMS authorities asking them not to discharge him. He appealed to them not to discharge him citing heart and kidney ailments. He pleaded that since there was no facility in Ranchi to treat his kidney ailments, he should be allowed to continue his treatment at AIIMS. Speaking to journalists Yadav said that 60% of his kidney was dysfunctional.

"Doctors are a reflection of God. They should not take any decision under pressure from any individual or political party. Their first duty is towards the complete recovery of the patient's health. Till the time I am fully healthy, I should be kept here for treatment," Lalu wrote.

However, AIIMS authorities said the medical board constituted for his treatment had found considerable improvement in his condition and the decision to discharge him was taken on the basis of the board’s recommendation.

A miffed Lalu said his shifting was part of a political conspiracy to ensure his health deteriorates further. After being discharged Lalu was taken to New Delhi Railway Station from where he was made to board Ranchi bound Rajdhani Express.

Earlier in the day, Congress President Rahul Gandhi dropped in the old private ward of AIIMS to meet Lalu Yadav and the two leaders had a long private conversation.
