Kolkata’s Retired IPS Officer Commits Suicide, Blames Mamata Banarjee In His Suicide Note

Retired IPS officer Gaurav Chandra Dutt, who committed suicide on February 19, held the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible for his death in his suicide note.

He accused Banerjee of abetting his suicide by keeping him on “compulsory waiting” — a punitive step when an officer is not given a posting — and for withholding his dues after he retired on December 31, 2018.

“Present CM WB has victimised me for 10 years and went all out to demoralise me due to her single-minded vendetta against me for reasons best known to her. This vindictiveness of CM is unparalleled. She has a strong inhuman quality to use and discard IPS officers. If one can’t live with honour it is better to die with honour,”Dutt said in his note.

The 1986 batch IPS officer had retired on December 31, 2018, after being on compulsory leave for nearly 10 years. He was reportedly suspended and sent on leave in 2010 following allegations that he had sexually abused a male constable.

After the suicide note surfaced on the internet BJP leader Mukul Roy demanded that CM Mamata Banerjee be arrested immediately and a CBI probe must be done in the case.

Three weeks ago, high drama ensued in the stated capital after Banerjee protested against the arbitrary action by the CBI on the then Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with the chit fund scam.

The alleged suicide is likely to further escalate the tension between the ruling and opposition parties.
