The security forces encountered Khalid, one of the top Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist in the Baramulla district of North Kashmir on Monday. The information about his presence in that area came from a local Kashmiri woman, he was allegedly having an affair with.

“Khalid alias Shahid Showkat, who led Jaish operations in north Kashmir, had lately been commanding a group of 3-4 Jaish fidayeen and supposedly on a mission to carry out a ‘spectacular’ suicide attack at a security installation in Kashmir,” said a top intelligence officer to the media.

The local Kashmiri woman on her own went to the J&K Police to track Khalid and kill him before the fidayeen mission could be executed. After discovering that Khalid had shifted his interest in other woman, she decided to inform police in tracking him. She shared her social media messages and details with the police, said sources.

Khalid was allegedly having several affairs with the local Kashmiri women as slain Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Abu Dujana used to have. He was supposed to meet the woman on Monday when the J&K Police killed him.

So far this year, the security forces in J&K have killed 167 terrorists including Khalid and three others neutralised in Shopian in separate encounters on Monday, surpassing the figure of 150 terrorists killed in whole of last year. It's an average of one terrorist per day since May 2017, because of the collaboration and coordination among the J&K police, Army, central para-military forces and intelligence agencies.
