45 Killed, 20 Injured As TSRTC Bus Falls In Gorge In Telangana's Kondagattu

At least 45 people, including 7 children, have been killed and 20 others injured after a TSRTC bus plunged into a gorge on the Kondagattu ghat road in Jagtial district of Telangana on Tuesday. More than 2 dozen passengers died on the spot, and nearly a dozen others are said to be in critical condition.  

The bus, said to be overcrowded had been carrying more than 60 passengers from the Shanivarampeta village to Jagtial when it fell in the gorge.

SP Jagtial  Sindhu Sharma, confirming the death toll said that the injured have been admitted to nearby government hospitals.

According to initial reports, the bus driver apparently lost control of the steering wheel at a sharp curve and as a result the bus plunged into the gorge. Most of the passengers lost their balance on the right side of the bus, worsening the accident situation, as many passengers died due to suffocation with victims falling on one another.

Immediate rescue operations were launched with the help of locals and four-wheelers who had been following the bus, and Jagtial Collector A. Sharath, SP Sindhu Sharma and Karimnagar Police Commissioner Kamalhasan Reddy, and other officials rushed to the spot.

Telangana in-charge Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao expressed condolences on the accident and announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the family members of the deceased.

Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy, TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and YSRCP president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy expressed shock over the unfortunate incident.
