At least 5 people have been killed, including a minor girl and 50 others rescued as a massive fire broke out in SSJ International Hotel in Lucknow's Charbagh on Tuesday morning. The fire, which started in the early morning reportedly spread to the Viraat Hotel as well. More than a dozen people have been injured and were admitted into a hospital.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the grievously injured due to the fire at Lucknow's Charbagh.

Lucknow IG S Pandey in a statement to media said that the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

"Cause of fire still to be ascertained. If we find any lapse on hotel's part during our investigation, we will take strict action against the people concerned," said Pandey.

According to Chief Fire Officer AB Pandey, the fire first broke out on the first floor of the SSJ due to a short circuit in an air conditioner and then later spread. Pandey added that more than 55 people were inside both the hotels when the fire first broke out around 5 AM.

As the fire broke out, local residents brought out buckets filled with water to douse the flames while others rushed to the terrace and called the fire brigade.
