Ahead of the cabinet reshuffle, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Dr. Nirmal Singh tendered his resignation. Reports suggest that he will not be a part of the cabinet in the PDP-BJP Government.

Media reports suggest that BJP will get five of its leaders inducted into the cabinet while dropping three including Nirmal Singh. The two other leaders expected to be dropped are Bali Bhagat and Priya Sethi. While Bhagat holds the health portfolio, Sethi is the Minister of State for Education, Technology, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture, and parks.

The state assembly speaker and senior leader of the party Kavinder Gupta will be sworn as the deputy Chief Minister replacing Nirmal Singh. Reports suggest that Dr. Nirmal Singh may be appointed the speaker of the state assembly. The swearing in will take place on Monday afternoon.

ANI quoted Gupta saying, “The party gave me the responsibility to bring in change after three years. I'll try my best to meet expectations of people and work for Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. We had entered into an alliance, following people's mandate. I hope it keeps working for them.”

Gupta was in news earlier last month for his infamous statement where he claimed that the attack on Sunjwan military base took place because of the presence of Rohingyas in the area.
