Kasganj Clashes: Family Of Deceased Chandan Gupta Granted Police Protection

The family of Chandan Gupta, who was killed in the Kasganj clashes on January 26 were provided security on Friday after his father alleged that he and his family are under threat.

Sushil Gupta, the father of the victim said,"Our life is under threat. Also, my daughter is under threat. I ask the judiciary, Yogi Adityanath to give licensed arms so that we can secure our safety. We also ask for security cover like security guards till we are under threat."

He added,"I was sitting outside. Some people come on the bike in the morning. They stopped the bike for a second and said that the accused are going to jail. but others are still there,(so) don't take enmity with us, we will see you."

Chandan Gupta died of a gunshot in a communal clash between two groups on January 26, while the people of one group took out a motorcycle rally in a minority area to celebrate Republic Day.

At least three shops, two buses and a car were torched in the clashes that followed afterwards. Over 118 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.

Earlier, Allahabad High Court refused to give Chandan the status of martyr and also said that there is no need to conduct an NIA probe into the matter.

A cheque of Rs 20 lakh was given to Chandan's family members who demanded that martyr status is accorded to him.

The police arrested the main accused, Saleem, but his two brothers charged with the murder are absconding. Combing operations have been intensified to nab Saleem's brothers, Naseem and Waseem.
